Athens Georgia photographer, Terry Allen, picked up a camera and started photographing sorority girls and rock and roll bands while attending University of Georgia and decided to let his accounting degree rest for a while. His camera has taken him all over the globe from humanitarian assignments with Sally Struthers in Africa to outdoor sporting destinations with bird hunters in Scotland and Ireland. In the 80’s, Allen managed rock band Dreams So Real and did photographic work for almost every major record label and music magazine including Columbia, Arista, Electra, and Warner Brothers, Spin and Rolling Stone.
Terry Allen brings 30 years of experience to his photo shoots. The Athens Georgia based advertising photographer decided ten years ago to combine his career of location lifestyle, architectural, and food photography with his favorite hobby, bird hunting and fine guns. The result brought another dimension to his craft. “I think the sporting magazines and outdoor destination clients really like the fact that I’m passionate about the sport and I’m one of their own.” This is a big factor that separates Terry from other good photographers and Double Gun Journal, Shooting Sportsman, Sporting Classics, Ducks Unlimited, Quail Unlimited, the NRA and British Game Gazette are all clients that have called on his services for over 40 covers and feature articles.
After earning his degree in accounting at the University of Georgia, Terry spent ten years shooting album covers and publicity shots for rock and roll bands in the southeast with such notables as REM, The B-52s, Black Crowes, and The Indigo Girls.
He did shoots for many major label records companies in the music industry and had work published in Rolling Stone, Time, Newsweek, Spin, Billboard, and Creem Magazine.
In the 90’s, Terry’s photographic emphasis went more towards ads and annual reports and his interests moved towards field sports and American, English and European shotguns. Allen’s experience in the area of lifestyle, architectural and product photography has proven to be the perfect background for sporting magazines, outdoor travel destinations, and sporting real estate developments. The fact that food and interior design photography is a major part of his monthly workload really helps when that type of shot is needed for a bird plantation or golf resort.
In 2006, Allen photographed a 600 page book covering the history of LC Smith shotguns that set a new level of quality for firearm coffee table books. In 2007, Music Hall of Fame rock band REM used a Terry Allen photograph as the cover of their album “And I Feel Fine”. British gun makers, Atkin, Grant & Lang as well as Brays Island, Deer Creek, Dewings Gun and Fly, Fieldsport, Kevin’s Outdoors, Ritz Carlton, Reynolds Plantation, Rio Piedra, Quail Country Plantation, Wynfield Plantation, University of Georgia, Lake Oconee Living and the Vintage Cup are all clients that have used Allen’s photographs for their ads or websites.
